well know if an if Mr Met if you like the recording for your students or family so maybe couldn't make it just shoot me an email and I will send it to you as well before I move on give me a thumbs-up that everybody can hear and see my screen anybody can just unmute themselves and let me know that you're good I'm good we're good thank you for thanks realize that something is a family I appreciate it. We will be doing a few things first I will just about options for high school introductory what are all the different school what is me and self-worth and then afterwards we will have a representative from Wake Early College she's going to join us at 2 and she's going to tell us a little bit more about the early college program she will give a lot of specifics about Reiki play college for where all of you to ask questions and get up and get a better understanding about their program so I'm just going to run through a present a presentation I'm hoping it doesn't take more than 10 minutes so I'm asking for are you a you to just keep yourself from you and if you could just keep your questions for the end of my part I'll try to answer as many questions as I can before you go to have enjoy enjoy but all right. begin so of course after 8th grade we want to know what what are options what's next so there are a few steps that are that you as a family will need to do when you you decide when you start this process to getting into Wake County most of my presentation today will focus on Wake County specifically if you live outside of Wake County Civil process is the same but I do encourage you to reach out to your County Board of Education or school one of the schools in your area so you can have better information about what to do so the first step that you will need to do is you will need to if your child has never been in public school you will go ahead and have to register them and Wake County the way you do this would be by going to a website that I have listed here the website will take you in aren't you and give you more directions on what you will need to do to let Wake County know that you will be a student that will be in their District in the fall after you go ahead and fill out that paperwork you need to get a call or an email from the school to complete your registration and what you will get has a unique ID number for your child that ID number is what will carry on with them throughout their time in public school if your child has already been in public school year have an ID number year will have to reach out and see if this number is still valid especially if they've been on the public system for a while finally after you get this ID number you are going to go ahead and use this ID number to apply or any early colleges or magnet school this number from what I remember is not needed if you're applying at any of the charter school this is more if you are going to be in a pool that is 100% did with Wake County so those are the initial steps you have to do also if you do not know what your base school is this website will also take you to a base School locator so you can know what your baseball is example driving school for my student my children was Optimus Drive I just put in the address and it will tell me what my baseball most of you probably already know but in case those of you who they were there is a base School locator the same website that will help you the next after you complete three steps you might you're probably wondering there's all these different type of schools which school is best for my child and if my students are near you're probably thinking difference between all these different types of school so what I'm going to do is do a brief run through through the different types of high school options you have public school with your Bay School have early college options Charter School options private school options magnet school and homeschool or Virtual School options so there are several different options for high school and I'm going to go ahead and run through each give a very very brief background so you're aware of what all this so the first one is public school this is your baseball that's assigned to you through your county like I mentioned earlier you would go to the website that will give you your baseball for example they might be at the drive might be green hope and Louis Public School is a best fit for students who are interested in a variety of forces who want to transition to a large school who are very interested in F set of courses you are at your best bet if you if you are a child who's interested in this you is to go ahead and look into baseball so that that'll be a best fit are you on your learning style you don't need to call any applications all you need to do is register at Wake County and then you will be automatically enrolled into that public school you will want to reach out to your public school go to an advisor to find out what classes to take in schedule and so forth are you don't have to fill out a proper application as some of the others are your next option are early colleges early college is a program with students take high school and college classes and they can earn college credit are early college examples are Wake Early College of Health Sciences the representative will be with us shortly wake stem Early College Wake young men leader check wake young women's leadership these are the ones that we've had students from Arsenal and as well as from North we'll go to after leaving our bir campus or more information I also have a website there early college setting is really a interested into want the smaller setting for very focused on an epidemic path and who are not worthless focus on extracurriculars but they really want to focus on an academic pathway and one of the small school experience the application process for early college is a little different the applications I believe are now open they usually open around this time I will double check with Robin when she joins us because of Cobra. Nowhere they are in the in the process right now after you get but you still have to get your ID number first and when you get your ID number you will be able to go ahead and apply with the application you will have to write an essay and there are questions depending on what school you are applying to that you need to tell your update or and you will have to have recommendation for an administrator from your math teacher in ela if you're at Alamance School your recommended recommendation me and my email address and Ela would go to Sister you would need to lift I get them are and emails and make sure you spell in the neck type of school that option that you have eyes for high school are Charter School charter schools are publicly funded independent school but they are publicly funded so there is no tuition they don't fall under wig you directly but they do have to follow some guidelines of the Wake County School System examples of what charter schools are best Santa still want that small environment and a specialized curriculum both Raleigh Charter in Triangle Math and Science tmsa they have a specific areas they focused on they are smaller. You still got that small school in dryer environment the application process for both these school do you have to go to their specific sites to find out about deadlines they are 100% Lottery there is no FSA there is no recommendation needed you just basically call your name out of a hat if you applied and if you get get selected you are you are ready to enter their school if you choose them private school the all Noel requires tuition payment they are privately funded examples of high school are thales Ravenscroft Cary Academy these are families who still want to continue with that private school setting usually requires an essay recommendations and student interviews we've had some instead of private schools in the past and these are the things that they have had to use for their application process we have magnet schools and as I think sometimes families get confused with a magnet and early college magnet schools the purpose of those are to reduce high concentrations of poverty in school to promote diverse populations to maximize use of school facilities and have innovated educational opportunities for example driving the magnet school because it has a Health Science Focus I believe brought in has an IB program I can't remember about Enloe does a magnet schools have a specific Focus that they receive funding for and they develop their program either this is a better person to really want to read and folk everyone to more focus on a specific field of study and their application process has begun I was just looking over the website yesterday those dates are accurate so if you are planning to apply to magnet school. Is the it is not the time is already started and finally the last option is homeschool I know last year we wouldn't think of it this much but it this year we're all many of us are learning from home so this might be something that you're still interested in because you may be like the way things are going right now there is the virtual Public School North Carolina concert program there's Chief still on which does require payment but they but they have their own online curriculum I believe it stays well and are proceeding through our very self-motivated have a great time management skills and like I said some of you might already be doing well with the online learning that many of you are a part of it all of you are part of them so this is a great option if you do you like the way the setup is now we have had many students from our school go ahead and homeschool and use Keystone MN ncvps and have a good experience all right there for my element school students what will we do in sha Allah by October 30th which is next Friday we will give you a we will ask our parents to stop by on Friday will send more details later and we will give you important documents that you will need for the registration process test for your birth certificate vaccination forms report cards everything you need the report card will be from all your middle school year till the present time 6/7 and now it and we will you can pick those up I must in Shala we will try to set schedule more session for early caught with Early College rested and if possible other schools right now we just have wake up wake early rap but we are I am reaching out to other schools to see if they have some time Thunder schedule to have a virtual session so I'll keep you guys updated if I am able to and then finally your teachers will help you out with obvious appeal to the recommendation but also help with essays if needed if you need to reach out to my sister Anna if you would like some help with the some essay writing we do help out as needed for all our students this is what we have to provide is a quick kind of chichi I'm going to go ahead and send this presentation out I'll send it to sister made for the oven or families and we'll send it out here for money man school it has all length and websites for you for the different types of school you make it easy for you two to navigate the different types of choices for your children and more about the application process and then finally thank you and finally to wrap up for parents with parents who are online what you can do is really three important for you to educate yourself about the different options out there because that's going to be your best way to know what type of school is the best fit for your child so I really encourage your parents to start doing your homework to see where you would like your children to attend what type of school you think is best for them visit the school right now. something that we recommended last year before freak open but there mites I do believe there are a lot of virtual sessions happening now so go ahead and sign up and see how you can get into View School virtually look for that have a good day National your child and figure out what the best fit is for you and your child and lastly what we've heard that really works well as parents were always we want to make sure that our our children are surrounded by Jeff and it's really great if you're able to find a network of other Muslim Students that your child can meet with before school starts in the fall we don't know what the pho look like being on campus or virtually have a strong Network and that you can be confident with your children as well well I am going to stop here we have about ten minutes before Robin from Waverly comes in I'm going to stop sharing so I can go ahead and questions and look in the chat as well I have one question that I think it's early college also waited lottery-based like charter school early college the lottery is just basically pulling it doesn't matter anything they don't look at any records any essays any transcript for the process is a little bit different whereas when it comes to the Early College first they will take a look at all of your all of the all of the required documents you've asked for and then they will go ahead and put you in a lottery so you will still be in a Lobby for the early college process but it it's just done a little bit differently only had one question. If anybody has any other questions you are more than welcome to just under yourself and ask for if you're more comfortable typing it in the chat student you're the ones you're going to be in high school so I encourage you to ask questions what middle schoolers tell them that question I have is not exactly High School related so I'm going to Reebok question and answer later what classes do you recommend for freshman year there so when you get into your question in your most of us the best thing to do is talk to an advisor and usually with incoming freshman be advisors so I had him the meeting and they'll really talk to you and your child about what what classes that are required to take their in there for graduation so I would recommend that you go ahead really contacted by a bee high schooler by there because they have a lot more knowledge than I do about the recommendations for your for the students questions for the early colleges do you is there a priority guaranteed if your a sibling of someone in the school from what I know and it's a great question to ask the representative that they do they do I want to keep siblings together in the same school cuz it just makes it easier for family however they did however I believe they do not guarantee if you still do need them meet their requirements that they ask of you in the past meat has to be go to the same school but as a but I do know it's not a hundred percent guarantee but that's a good question I have a question so you were talking about of the Early College I'm sorry. I'm sorry can you say it one more time we know it was College college credit why is college credits like useful when you're in an early college approximately your first you're taking High School courses and then your second two years taking college courses with college courses can transfer over into whatever College you choose to go to after your 4 or sometimes five years High School comedy early colleges also do 5-year program so that is what how you're that that's how you take all that you can take college courses to transfer their credit when you go to from high school to college you're welcome I'm just going to read through the chat right now no I have when somebody asking where do we get to know what to write about for the essay so when you start the application process they will go ahead one of the sections is days and they will tell you what SSA you need to write the first after you get your number and after you start the application within the application process one of the headings will be up there and it will tell you which ask what the f--- a question about that from depending on the school so you will that's the way you will find out the Epic question if you choose to homeschool that's a great question you will have the first decide which homeschooling program that you are going to enroll in and then contact them and then they will tell you what the next steps are so if you do choose the homeschooling route the next step for you to do is decide which homeschooling program are you going to go with are you going to go with the North Carolina virtual public school or as a family do you want to go with a private organization you're going to have to do a little bit of homework surrounding the different curriculums and then decide which homeschooling program that you want to 10 and then they will die Next Step if you're a Derm resident you cannot apply to wake I did have one student who was a mistake Johnston County 2 years ago and they did not allow her to apply to any of the wakeful blahsum now I want to say no I'm pretty sure that's the way it goes but you can ask the Wake earlier but I don't think so where can you find a high school counselor for advice so if you plan to go to baseball that you would be assigned a high school counselor if you are accepted to a Early College you will be assigned to a counselor so your high school counselor will be assigned to whatever you'll be assigned once or whatever will you go to I can give you my only friend smell children my own children school does accommodate for Salat time they do give them a room but you have to be so no matter where you are up for things that are part of your rights you are allowed to do and are very accommodating they will give you a room so you can go ahead and make your Salat and shout low so you don't miss the law wherever you might be questions from the chat anybody else want unmute themselves please go bad so if you don't have any question I do see other benefits from Wake Early College credit like I said if you are somebody who's interested in that help by inspect for your future I do know that some of our students who were graduated from here were able to get their associate's degree in Justified field example phlebotomy and I know there's a bunch of I just can't remember them right now so they could actually work right out of high school because they have an associate degree with a particular skill-set so that might be something you're interested in if you're interested in getting into the work for earlier if you want that extra credit John your resume so there's lots of other various reasons why you might want to go ahead and take an early college rule if you do get it wake early only you Christian interested in science it is a very strong science and health sciences focus when they're in China when the rebel comes back and she will give you a little bit more information but from what I do understand is a very much focused on Health Sciences and they're very upfront about that for people who would like to pursue that route because of that blessed best place for them to be Elsa Friday this is light on Saints father I have a question so my question is that how many years of college would be left for those coming out of Early College debate questions I've heard a lot of different things so I have heard that some students have graduated with high school with two years of college under their belts so I would assume would be two more years and I've also heard students to spell did the four years so I don't have a high your first time going to answer for you but I think that's a good question to ask the representative when she joins us but in theory it should be only two more left so if that's the case then you're two years you're not really that you're you're not you don't have to pay for 2 years you have only two years to pay so I think she's coming in hand it off to her hi Robin how are you I'm I am the coordinator Wake Early College of Health and Sciences and I always get to visit with your students every year and get to meet the eighth-graders there because what one of my jobs is to go tell students about what I don't try to do is talk students into our school because it's either the right school for your it's not what I want to do is make sure you understand fully what it's like to be at our school as much as possible so that you can make the best decision for you I am going to share a presentation with you I am new to zoom I've never used them before I'm hoping yeah you can and you know to make sure we can see your screen yep Whittier drive them all right now we have fries yes we do so for Wake Early College of Health and Sciences her name is long but it's pretty self-explanatory we are in early college that focuses on Health and Sciences our College partner all early colleges have a college partner hit her College partner is Wake Tech and we also have a hospital partner wake Med that helps provide opportunities for on the left here you'll say we I have two pictures of two schools we are dual enrollment enrollment school and it'll campus School on the left that top picture is where are 9th to 10th grade go to school for 9th and 10th graders are taking High School classes almost all the ones they're going to need for graduation during 9th and 10th grade so that they can move on to the college campus that's the one on the bottom and take classes that will be Jordan college credit that first one on top top is behind WakeMed which is the big hospital on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh you may have been there at some point for other and then the one on the bottom that you go see when you have your 11th grade year is it the Louisburg Road exit off of 540 to different campuses based on what you're going to do when you're in 9th and 10th grade you're in high school and you only interact with high school students that building right there is on college campus at our students don't mix in any way at any time when you're in the 11th and 12th grade you are taking college classes and you do take classes with other college students it's never just you it's always in a group of our students but there will be college students in this class a program can last four or five years most of our students choose to do with him for that's a student choice if you one space it out a little bit more slowly you can stay for 13th May you can also stay to add additional certificates that you might want to earn some students want to be a certified nurse's assistant they want to be a phlebotomist draw blood or maybe Nancy person could get those certificates because they want to work this job in the summer or during college and make a little bit more money and enjoy the job a little more than they might have if they were some of the benefits that we have to offer are you going to leave us with a high school diploma and it was degree for College transfer you might know what the bachelor's degree is that the four-year degree or associate degree is a two-year degree and if you were just a regular tag you can get a degree in lots of things but our students don't news from those things are students can only get one associate degree and that's call an associate degree for College transfer what that means is your earning the first half of a bachelor's degree you're going to get two years of college leave us don't wants two more years at a university it's all free you don't pay tuition you don't pay for books you don't pay for goggles that you need for labs all of that is paid for for you and as long as you earn a c or higher in your class you will get the transfer the credit for that class 2A University of North Carolina School imma show you really quickly what those schools are you might not know this yet but all of these universities are part of one big system the University of North my system for all public which means their own by Austin their taxpayer-funded and Wake Tech is also part of the system every class you take with us that you get a c or higher in will automatically transfer to be schools it's possible for how to get your credit transfer to other schools as well but every school that's not a part of the system makes a decision about how they transfer credits on a school bus go basis and go to their website you can go to Harvard website and look how they accept College transfer credits to get that information before you apply any questions so far I'm not sure how I see questions here so am I just be easier if run through your whole presentation yeah that's what I did this so the moment is gone you do forget but I really want to be you got all the answers the calendar in the school day that's important for the campus on top of the 9th and 10th Grade Campus they go the same number of schools that any public school students lane or base than any public schools the only difference is we start about two weeks earlier and then we finish with first semester by the time we leave for one break and then we're done with the school year by Memorial Day 2 weeks difference the north campus calendar is different it is the weight my calendar is fewer days than a public school would be but it's just the same number days in the other college student goes school day 9th and 10th grade your school day at 7:25 to 2:10 and then when you're in the on the north campus house credits all your classes happened between 8 and 2 when you're a college you don't have classes straight through but all of your classes with ball between those times and I'll explain that a little bit more as we go on Austin come to us with an interest in exploring health and science careers that can mean lots of things I'm thinking of him since I've talked to you recently we have potential bet somebody wants to be a psychiatrist a marine biologist eviction nurse they have some for adventurous may be specific maybe vague at this point but they want to learn more we had a full-time Career Development coordinator at her job is to connect students and with and the people in those careers she will constantly talk to you when we were small school so we can we talk a lot and I think you're used to that to find out what careers you want to know more about and then your ninth-grade Delaware Xperia this where you get to hear guest speakers or you go out and visit people and see them at their job and just to learn a little bit more and for the ones that you were more interested in those experiences get deeper and deeper the older you get you making an internship or violence deposition of different job shadowing just to find out more about what the job is and then by the time you go to college you have a better sense of the direction you want to take your career most of this is taking place outside the classroom inside the classroom the elect so we offer our all health-related but other than that and 9th and 10th grade and when you're taking college classes you're very much focused on traditional academics I don't want you to get the idea that all day you look like it looks stupid in these pictures do these is there engaged in a Richmond activities of the day would be biology and English them and that's worth it so what's it like I will tell you honestly it's very rigorous and I want to be forthcoming about that what do I mean not that it's hard or that you should be afraid of it because you shouldn't but it is challenging and there's a lot of work to do the honors class is all our classes that can be honest classes are honors classes in a tree High School you would be able to choose a mix of honors and non honors if you haven't had math 1 or Algebra 1 by the time you come to us you will take that as your first math class and if you haven't had Spanish you will start with Spanish and 9th grade 2 a little sooner than you would in a standard High School you look through that list of characteristics be if you see yourself in that the reason I say that is most of our students have a long-term career goal than what it is yet but they know there's long-term goal and because of that they know they're going to spend a lot of time and money on an education going to an early college will shorten the amount of time it takes and will make it less expensive the trade-off is you have to invest in this rigor when high school if you're the kind of students you can say I want to put that kind of investment in my future when I'm high school and I'm willing to do the work then you would be a good fit for our school and if you are willing to do that we having a crush mom support for you on the other side the reason we exist is to help students succeed in college classes in high school we don't expect you to come to us knowing how to do all this thing so we offer support these are just some examples that I I wanted to share with you at lunch we have a collaborative time where you can work with teachers if you need to or if you can work with other students if you need elaborate something's like to go to the library and work or study something's like to work in groups whatever whatever it is that you need additionally on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday after school we have what we call the success lab so that you can stay after school and do the same kinds of things every teacher stays at least one day a week plus there's another teacher who's in the accept us 6 lab everyday in the reason we do it on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday is because the activity bus will take you out home after that or later all of our students are very committed to getting A's and B's they want that for the collar fast and they want it so that they have good transfer credit when they go if our students are struggling with getting A's and B's we have academic coaches help them will bring in your tutors which are usually student body taking the classes and have done well so they welcome back and volunteer and help on the lower campus classes are small, like what you're used to in a traditional high school that you might have 35 or 40 kids in a class after school 25 the top and a lot of her math classes are smaller than that when you get to the north campus and you're taking college classes we have three full-time teachers up their math science and English and their job is to support you while you're taking his classes and help you their classrooms for you to spend time when you're not in a college class and get help you can work with other students in the teachers there to teach you what you might have missed the class and help you develop the skills to succeed in college classes trade-offs if you go how to get half a college degree while your high school something's got to go and I want to make sure you have a good understanding of some of the things that we do squeeze out we don't have our own Athletics team our students who are athletes place George through Enloe High School Enloe High School is about a mile mile-and-a-half, so it works very well and it works even better because we share Transportation with them and I'm going to explain that to you that's complicated questions I definitely want to answer them Enloe is what we call a magnet high school and students who live anywhere in Wake County can apply to go to unless they have Tunes in Morrisville and Garner in Wake Forest what Wake County Public School does it set up a bus stop for every Enloe High School students and then our students are assigned to the Enloe bus stop that's closest to where they live most of our students can walk to their Enloe bus the song chance it may be 2 or 3 miles away which is not really walkable and I want to make sure you're aware that in case that's an issue you are welcome to carpool and I we have two drivers when they get old enough I just want to make sure that you know you may not have how it works as you get on at the bus stop and you ride the bus to Enloe High School then you get off the bus it in the high school get on that shuttle and Ride The Last Mile to our school and now you don't reverse you leave our school on the shuttle if you are an athlete you have dismissed with us 10 minutes before and dismisses when you get there and they're getting out and then you can go straight to your sport or activity if you're not an athlete can you get on your bus and go home your Mo bus stop additionally we do not offer band Forest theater or art those Arts programs are usually part of an academic program where you take those classes during the school day since our students are compressing their High School experience into basically two years we don't have room for that when you're in 9th and 10th grade you're not using your own class as we're putting you through the program you need to take to get your high school credits done so you can move on to the college classes and make choices we don't offer any PE at all there is no health and PE requirement to graduate but our students take a Wake Tech Force to satisfy that requirement and also goes toward their debris their Derby yearbook and that is of course that means during the school day that option is still available for you so what's it like to be a student the things on your screen right now are things that we value if you would like to see what it looks I want to know if you have access to social media or your families have access to social media I would say maybe go back through a couple of years and see what life is like see some of the events that we have had become of the news that comes out I give you a few we know that we are putting people out to be doctors in psychologist and veterinarians and we make sure that we have taught them the skills not just academic skills but the life skills they need seen those environments the ways we do that is through clubs we have National Honor Society Key Club which is a community service Club Health occupations students of America Science Olympiad we also have several students whose change from year to year based on student entrust him with questions and you make sure you drop those down and I'll try to answer them when we get to the end how do you apply the first thing you're going to need to do is enroll at your base School you need to become a Wake County Public School student because they need to give you a student number to use in the application that has to be step one before you do anything else in Step 2 is going to be to go to the application portal which is highlighted in red your screen everything that you do to apply is going to happen through that portal when you go there you're going to give us four things four things are your test scores in your is any standardized test that you took in middle school and the grades that you got in your core classes in Middle School your counselor will almost certainly help you with us you can capture those and upload them straight into the portal scan the next thing you're going to need to do is write an essay and we are not looking for you to write a grammatically perfect essay looking for the opportunity to learn more about you we want to make sure you understand what you're getting into and did you be there in y the fort thing that you need to do is get us some recommendations from your school you're going to need a recommendation from a math or an English language arts math and English language arts teacher anytime your middle school 6 7 8 + The Counselor or administrator what we're looking for there is sometimes your grace and your test scores don't tell us the whole story of who you are and what you're ready to do those people who know you can tell us a little bit more help us understand better once we look at your test scores gray dress a recommendations we're going to make a termination kind of a guess whether you're ready for college work there's a hundred possible points to be around there and if you or earned 70 or more that means we think you're ready for College work been there going to be more people who score that 70 then spot we had we get to take about 75 to 80 kids a year and there is a little bit every year and there is a lottery to determine which people will get this lot if you were first generation college student renew your parents don't have a college degree there is awesome way to give into your application there and if you have an older sibling who's already at our school and you meet the 70 you will automatically come school with us and that applies to your younger siblings as well if you should become a student with us than your siblings we get that preference the application is open now and I will be over 37 14th there's no advantage to doing it early or late but you don't want to make it so that you have to rush a rustic gift to recommendations when you ask someone at your school to do your recommendation if they say yes you will enter their email address into the portal the portal will email that person and give them what they need to fill their recommendation out you're going to find out on February 23rd 2021 if you got a spot you are welcome to apply to more than one Early College if that's a good fit and you're also welcome to apply to magnet for magnet high school that you much help with because I don't have control of rent with the magnet program will be glad to help you as well so these are some sources of help for you as you need it now I have all the time that you themselves so the first question in the chat is our Durham residents allowed to apply to wake Charter and magnet schools the answer is no but there are Charter Magnet School in your county that you can apply to okay another question is are the students mixed with college students on Camp in on campus classes in 9th and 10th grade you will not mix with any other students that are not in 9th and 10th grade in the 11th and 12th grade you will be mixed with other students you will have students from our school in that class with you but there will be other students in the class in addition to you the next question is would it be a problem if you wanted to attend the school but don't want to specifically go into medicine right now I would say that if you don't have trust in health or science is in some way you may not enjoy the enrichment opportunities they're available to you I don't think it needs to be medicine specifically but obviously a good number of our students have an interest in one thing and eighth-grade and by the time they're in the 10th 11th or 12th grade they may have an entirely different interest nuts that's fine swell lower but you are not making a commitment to sticking that topic that makes sense next question is if we go to magnet school do we need to take early college or is it extra you will either go to a magnet school or an early college you will not have Spa at both and as I was saying for the Early College comes first if you prefer magnet schools Early College don't apply to an early college because if you get a spot he won't have a shot at your magnet school if you prefer early college you would want to apply to both because that up your chances of getting on school do you like to go to definitely Early College one does come first right with a question a good question what's the acceptance rate into college from your school all of our students pretty much go to college if they don't it's not because they make the decision to do something else we had someone not last year with you force you to join the military and I think they were still going to go to college later but they wanted to earn some money first mode is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill probably the number to is NC State part of that is because proximity those schools are closer part of it is because all those college classes will transfer and then also should interest you have a lot of kids are interested in science is in the medicine and those wheels are big on that if you are willing to do the work you will go to school you want to go to do the grade student get some college courses affect their college gpa not their college GPA generally Schools transfer the credits but not your grades because your GPA at that school is your GPA that's cool but your GPA matters because the GPA you get in your college classes will it impact what you can get what schools you can get into it will also impact what kind of scholarships you get those sorts of things it matters but it won't affect your college and just to be clear and I'm just telling if you don't live in Wake County you can't apply to Wake County that's correct yes correct it doesn't matter if it's early college and he'll even if your life and health interested in Health Sciences right there are opportunities in all the counties around here whichever county am I live in it's not our school and there's another one or two or three that you would be interested in probably in your own County do the graduates apply as transfer students to college in UK either way in the counselors at our school will help you decide which one's best for you generally in terms of getting scholarships it's better to apply the first year what they usually do to apply first year get in that way and then they transfer your credits and you become a junior whatever you are but that's not always done the same way depending on what you want if you want to some people do not want to live on campus so they want to bypass the freshman parents and they applies transfer but again there's no study answer that you will do it the way that works best for what you want what do most students major in our school you're not majoring in anyting because you and I know a lot of you have no reason to know this yet but when you go to college and get a four-year degree about half of that is General classes and half of that is your major Austin for taking the classes that you have to take no matter what you want to Major everybody's got sick science in English History the difference is if you know you want to go into medicine you make us more on taking biology classes classes and you know you want to be an engineer you made me put this thing on physics not actually choosing a major with us you're preparing to go to the next School in your major and every semester before you choose your classes you'll sit down with your Wake Tech counselor only works with our students and she will say what how much do you think you want to go to and what do you think you want to major in and then try to tailor your classes to that experience so you will be set for what you want to do next if you want to help my if I want to help my child choose what pros and cons are in college vs non College other than the lack of extracurricular activities if you believe you think you're still really like so small School experience and there's no right answer to that but all of our kids know each other and every teacher will teach your kids and you pretty much see everybody every day if you think that's a good experience probably a very good fit we also I don't want to use the word nag but it's kind of true if our students have agreed that 75 below we are on it our students want ASAP as they really want Ace and we start figure out you're not getting that there's something wrong and we are going to diagnose the problem and solve it if you're still kind of like to be left alone if they want to fade into the background it's a little hard to do that and in our environment open answer when you apply you put wake early as your first choice and stem as a second there a way to make sure it doesn't get me stop and make wake stem your first choice instead of the other you will be checking you will be checking in the portal which one and it's not done by humans it done by algorithm I really don't understand the whole process But whichever one you check first you will go through that Lottery first if you don't get a spot there immediately the program runs again and you run into the next lottery so just order them in the in the are you want them and it will work out that way if you get your second choice or no spot at all you stay on the list for student who may move away or something might happen and you stay on that list if you want to until squats I have one more question I've heard freshman year grades affect your grade your grades for college is it true yes every High School class that you take will affect your GPA for that we take that seriously I don't want to see grades are not the most important thing I don't want to over stress that but we know how Gordon Grey's are you currently and in your future if you are committed to getting certain grades and you're willing to do the work for that support is there for you really the only students who struggle the grades are the students who are not committed to getting them you will not be falling through it cracks read support so your answer earlier they loved your answer so that we're good for that one if the student didn't meet the 75 grade and up what happens I hope I didn't make that sound fire that just means we have a team at school we meet every week we're following through on kids grades and we talked with the teachers find out why the student doesn't have 75 x it's just missing work and I need to get caught up and in and we could get that taken care of sometimes there's a sign of a bigger problem like maybe there's a some math skills that might have been missed at some point or whatever it is we diagnosed with a problem is and work to build those gaps and get them back up there's no there's no punishment or bad it happens it's just our attention is on getting the student back to where they want to be if we want to do it immediately before that has a chance of snowfall so I don't have anything else in the chat I don't know if I buddy else wants to just go ahead and mute unmute themselves and okay so I have a question to see lotto and father again the question is about what what class most do you have now on Overland open thing and if there is if there's any any what was the outlook for the We Were Soldiers going to be following Wake County but but I mean if you show any difference or you so what level do you think the quality of Education she presented was impacted by this whole transition to online virtual we expecting to go back so I can smell we are four by four block so the four classes the students taken out will be replaced by four new classes second semester we expect to go back to face-to-face instruction second semester I work at a lot of things I have office hours every day and work with students on their organization and whatever they need help with so I can get to talk to kids every day some of the kids think it's the best thing that ever happened because they're they are more comfortable with this format they like the timing works better for them they can choose the time of day they want to do things and they loved it other kids don't love it at all they miss the interaction they miss being a school and I can't wait to get back so I don't think there's a universal answer I think all the teachers want to be back and we can wait Wake Tech and wake up schools are separate from each other and I'd Wake Tech is not planning to go back so far they have not announced that they're going to talk face-to-face second semester more questions than chat what would it be essay be about the essay and you can go see it today did you go to the wake wake early college wear site you can click on the application and see it it's it's basically asking you to explain to us why you want to go to our school it's not that you need a good enough answer it's that we want you to think through what your answer is and make sure that you're ready to commit to what you heading to we're not looking for you to accept the right thing in the right way I see that some of the students didn't meet the 75 there's no but there's no penalty for that we are play only there to help you get back to where you want to be we know our students do not want these we know that because they are very upset when they're getting seized and the reason we're jumping in there to get them back to where they want to be there's no there's no punishments that any other questions for our participants for Robin or in the chat in order to apply what grades do you need there is no minimum because you could earn points about that 70 out of a hundred you want to earn you can earn them different ways some people have lower grades but they have outstanding recommendation are they have high test scores but something else is a little bit lower if you would want if your grades are not that strong you want to make sure that you have strength somewhere else if we find a student to consistently get seized hello and doesn't do well on standardized tests and their teachers don't recommend them and their essay doesn't suggest that they want to go to our school then this is not going to work out we have students we have to summer Tire Grayson some lower they just make that up somewhere else sorry one last question what's your acceptance rate all depends on how many apply last year I think we had about 365 application and we got a tea slots thank you I don't know how this virtual environment will affect that all of the report cards are the final grade for the courses and 6th and 7th and 8th grade you will upload your report cards for the end of the year and then they'll be the first quarter grade obviously for this year because that's all you have what is your mom is that you can't it's math nwea so it's it has it just it's more diagnostic I haven't three times a year to show student growth but it does have a correlation with Gog and the you so that's the one you send us we look at standardized test any other questions you're welcome to unmute yourself guys students parents if you come up with questions you didn't think of today if you go to our website Wake Early College my name and email address or on a banner across the top you can ask me at any point there are also on that website their information session to sign up for I would say you don't want to do that because they moved mation is this but there is an open house and at that open house we will have teachers and students in Google it's available to talk to you in a certain questions from their point of view you may want to sign up for that but again. I would not choose an information session because that would be a repeat of today unless there's someone else in your family you would like to hear you didn't hear it today that's good to know if there aren't any more questions I'll I'll give another maybe a minute when other can you only get in at 9 we get 75 to 80 kids 10th grade I don't I do not know what their pattern is or how they choose it but usually we get about five this year we can get it any I think they're guessing if we're going to have a nutrition and we hadn't had any of that point we didn't there's a good chance that we'll get some spots weird answer this question I think they're asking is having those extracurriculars are good for college is classes gym or track good for college important I know there's a PE requirement where we meet the PE requirement I don't think so if you're I don't think so when colleges are looking at accepting they look at the pro it was available to you and the program that you chose to take I don't think there's any disadvantage to not doing something that wasn't available to you you would still want extra curricular activities and we have a lot of stuff but it would just be more late sippin Club type experience has been athletic volunteer like you said earlier you the way the program is sometimes you have to go back to in some way than you have to give up a few things but it does balance out I believe in the end for sure well if there's nobody else anybody else well if there are any marks Robin has given out her contact information and I will go ahead and send that out to her family as well in case they do have any specific questions about your school in your program and thanks so much for joining us and thank you bye bye and bye and for everybody else thank you so much for joining us on Cholla I will mail up the slide the slide deck as long as the recording so you have in case you all couldn't join us have a wonderful rest of the day and then I want to come so I come have a great day in Show Low
