Town Hall meeting to update parents on the reopening of school for the 2020-2021 school year.

husband I'm in shape to all our parents and our families and students thank you for joining us today at this time town hall meeting the purpose and Cholla of today's meeting is really need to answer any questions or any concerns our families might have regarding our schools reopening we are using new technology today to ensure that we can get maximum viewers at the Town Hall lives in Cholla since this is being streamed on YouTube we ask that after I go through my short presentation you any questions you might have inputs and take them into the chat box and it shall I have sister on our assistant principal with us and she will go ahead and read the questions I'll bet answer them for you the best as I can as a reminder I'm principal here at Alamance School and I hope everyone is doing well and if I forget later on as you keep going a happy early I eat for all our families and students so as I mentioned the purpose of today's meeting is to update everybody on our reopening plans we did share Sunday night how we would be beginning the school year in August inshallah but I'll run through say it again just want it also give you an update on our safety protocols that we had discussed in our last town hall meeting there are a few updates I wanted to share with our families to make sure that you have up-to-date and current information show you remind you of our hybrid model and show you some sample schedules so you can get an idea how your child's day will look like in August as well as for the virtual model that we will be starting the school year off for a 4 students a few next steps that I need you to complete so we can get everything plan properly and then finally we will open the floor for questions and concerns so as stated in the email are updated reopening plan will have our pre-kindergarten or Pre-K students on campus Monday through Friday using a and there will be part-time options for parents who need those that flexibility start the year using the hybrid model that we had just decedent to be grouped into two cohorts on an A A and B schedule either Monday or Wednesday or Tuesday Thursday and they will attend the class it at today's for we all students will still have the virtual option under the hybrid model if families feel that is what works best for them Friday's will continue to be a virtual for all our students from kindergarten through 8th grade accept preschool & Final r428 Spirit grade students will start the year in a virtual model all our students will attend their classes from home on a computer I'm going to just review quick we are procedures and protocols I know we have some new family joining us welcome so to update them and then to give our returning families updates on where we are so as we mentioned last year classrooms have been measured to determine how many students can be in a true to accommodate the 6-foot social distancing students will be seated 60 from one another to maintain the requirements for North Carolina Department of Health are students from kindergarten through wall art from kindergarten through 3rd grade and all staff members will be required to wear cloth face coverings our students are being asked to wear the kids size masks and have them watched watch Daily on our website we have a covid-19 supply list where we have linked samples of the masks that we would like our students to wear its import they have a good fitting masks to make sure that they are covered in the proper manner we will continue with the on arrival screening for staff and students with their picture taken in the car in the carpool lane as well as a daily assessment that will occur before our staff and students the assessment to make carpool go smoother will be sent to parents via form everyday in the morning parents will have to fill out the form and then they will receive a confirmation that they have filled it and that will be that that will be what they will show to our staff in the morning after their child has been screaming for their temperature we are also asking that before you leave home that you go ahead and take your child's temperature just so we can have that extra layer of safety measures in place we have hired a medical assistant to help us during this process in the morning with screening if we have to if we have anybody showing soon and so forth so this has been done and we have hired somebody as well as we have updated our cleaning schedules and we have hired additional custodial staff for our hybrid learning Burger grades in k-3 we will continue with the group a with the last names a through F on Monday and Wednesday on site and Group B last names G through z Saison Thursdays and once again Fridays will be a virtual self-paced for all of our students this is an example of a sample schedule this is not your child schedule is a sample of what your child's day might look like if they're in kindergarten through 3rd grade and the hybrid on-site model you see that we have built in time for screening in our health assessment in the morning morning time's the morning time and then we go ahead and sharp or subjects hand-washing breaks mask breaks and so forth till the end of the day for our virtual students we are keeping them on track as much possible weather on site students however the areas that you see highlighted are where your students will be attending live classes so this is how the schedule will look for those who are on site and those who are birds have on their virtual date or those who are choosing the hundred percent virtual model so this is just a sample to give you an idea I know many parents asked what would the day look like when will the day start for my students and so forth I just wanted to give everybody a picture what that would look like I really want to emphasize a reminder families that if your child in kindergarten through 3rd grade and use are more comfortable with a virtual only model that is still being offered and following this meeting we will be sending a final sign up for our parents specifically in grades K-2 3 where you have to make your final choice if you are going to be going with the hybrid model having your child on site to Days Inn off site or with 100% virtual model it's really important that you complete this Form B and your choice that you make holes for the entire first quarter moving on to her students in 4th and 8th grade our students will begin with 100% virtual learning we know that this is not optimal from any of our fan please but considering many different factors that were mentioned in the email we felt that this was best for our students and our families at this point we will re-evaluate we will re-evaluate this on in the 1st of September and we will continue to reevaluate throughout throughout the year I hope is that we can get the kids and the building as soon as possible but as everybody knows this is a very fluid situation and Dynamic situation and we have to work with the with the situation we're in 400% Virtual learning all students their days will be from Monday through Friday 8 to 3 the virtual platform alive policies and procedures of off-site in the hybrid environment and all those can be found all those policies and procedures can be found in our emergency handbook on our website under covid-19 response section this is a sample schedule for students in 4th and 5th grade very similar we will start off with the morning assembling in morning morning meeting they might have math or another subject English and then some brakes bill then again a couple more subjects and then a break for lunch and Salah and then possibly they might end the day with office hours or with a stomach studies or with one of their four classes the sample again to give you an idea what your child they might look like if they're in 4th and 5th grade finally for my middle schoolers again they are also virtual 100% And this is a sample of their day are middle schoolers musholla more responsibility and can take on the responsibility they do have a little bit of longer day but they are also brace filled in very similar to their school day if they were here in the building next steps for our families the first thing like I mentioned before we have a covid-19 supply list that's up on the website the supply list is more geared students who are in the hybrid model however there are a few items that all students will need even if they're in the virtual such as headphones to ensure audio quality when they're working a virtual bartender Garden through 3rd my parents you'll be expected to complete two forms that will be sent to you after this meeting the first form will confirm which method of learning you decide on for the first quarter and this choice will hold for entire quarter exceptions he made due to the fact that there's so much planning and organizing that takes place that we really need to know the correct number so we can ensure that we have deprived the proper environment for a also we will be sending a technology form for you to let us know what type of Technology you will need to be successful your children will need in the virtual environment and for a fourth through eighth grade parents you will only need to fill out the technology needs form get an email after this meeting and just please make sure you fill out those correct forms so that's it for my presentation and Shala I will go ahead and open the floor and Serana will help me out cuz she is reading to preliminary numbers we do notice that we have a primarily is a split in the grave so for example if our 5th grade class is 30 students we do have approximately half of them that have chose the virtual option so that would be the number that would be with your child in the classroom these numbers are I can't say I would have I don't that's an example however each grade will be different based on the parents who chose virtual and what grades are child second thing is also in Vines mansion not like when your child is virtually on attending a live lesson it's it's also with the kids that are like their present I like it in school so we're going to try my best to make the kids feel like they're debris in the classroom as well just to mention so what's Toronto mention would be for kindergarten feedback from parents with the specific concern so we're looking more to split it up at split it up. The actual when it's time to deliver the lesson we all have both groups list so sorry I'm getting pop up the internet is unstable could be the weather going back to what I was saying we did get a lot of feedback from parents about that so what we are planning to do especially in our younger great is to allow for the lesson for the teacher to teach both online and the in-person student however there will be a teacher dedicated also to those kids online to make sure they're engaged and then when it's time for the individual work. teacher will support those students so it won't be one teacher with with kids just dealing with tickets online and in-person it will be another teacher supporting her or one of our teaching assistant from the survey so we offered our plan a little bit when we got back to feedback from our family what's the next question is what find the requested supplies such as the Lysol wipes that's a great question I know certain that's a great question I know the supplies are very difficult Define right now however when it comes to cleaning supplies that we are well stocked when it comes to the proper cleaning supplies needed for the zika virus that so that is something that we as a school have already taken if you can find them that would be very helpful as a parent you know as a mom also I go every time I can't find them so that's understandable and we know the situation where and when are we going to receive the supplies list it is actually on our website so the Cove is supply list is linked on the covid-19 response on a real human school.org General supply list is under student under the Student Life tab so they are already uploaded to the website I'm better Isaac is asking how can parents commit to Virtual versus hybrid for an entire quarter when the situation is so fluid great question and I wish I had I wish I could change things every week but organization is this particular time is a beast and we need to be able to have a proper numbers to to work effectively to know how many students at we have to support online know how many that we have to make room for in the classroom so quarter is long especially with Dynamic situation but that's what we have to do and I wish I had a better better answer but that's the reality of the situation we have at least in the beginning do you need a laptop or can you use your mobile phone why you shouldn't you should be using a laptop or a school Chromebook the mobile the mobile phone might all be out of work especially since we have we have purchased many online resources for our students to engage in and I might not be mobile-friendly so I would not recommend a mobile device for learning will there be will there be a possibility to be 100% on site with the exception to be virtual for those who wanted I I don't I I I wish I could. I wish I had the answer to that question unfortunately I don't really depends on how things are going in the state to be honest when we were back at the end of May early June things are looking great in North Carolina in August wash your hands and socially distance but here we are unable to open school because of the increase in cases in our state so I don't know how things are going to go if they get better eye I'm can we are committed to bring our students back but it must be done in a safe and a safe manner for everybody so possibilities I don't have percentages I just wear following closely the cases are and at this point right now this is the way we have to start but that being said we do want our students back on you have up to so many teachers and they all say the same thing we would keep our entire just our school by itself as the other private schools that operate to operate independently of any other organization we are you need so we have to make unique choices why did the tuition increase tuition increase was something that was done in February it was it has it's nothing to do with the Cove in the situation we it is a challenge at this time but also we have not changed our quality of Education we have actually invested a lot more with the president's the way Sheehan with online description meaning with medical staff with medical supplies so we have actually increased a lot of the items needed to keep the school but the situation in which Mission increase are not connected so where's asking when we schedules for students before the start of school until our teachers will be coming in August 11th to setting up their classes then they will communicate with you that your child schedule so yes you will have them before the start of the school year end up falling behind if not properly manage time today similar is my sister Sakina on the third grade has two teachers will that still be the case with online for example will they have a teacher for online managing those kids separate so they will still have the teachers at day normally learn from in the classroom the schedule will work as such that we will ensure that whoever is teaching English to one section will be teaching to the other section I'll be there virtually or be they on so different between us are hybrid or virtual is the same and able to provide support power is there and having the same features that are teaching a lesson on site they're also teaching her for a show so in Charlotte there should be no discrepancies or gaps in the quality of the teaching what is The Back-up Plan for any Tech issues and how to and how teachers are going to handle these kind of issues as well as the teacher or the teachers trained for the virtual model the teachers will are being trained for the virtual model extensively so to answer your question yes are being trained issues we are Will and shall I be you can reach out to us and it either front office I'm we're working on dedicating either an email forward to any Tech is is or a phone number that you can call for specific technical issues if they cannot be resolved by the classroom teacher a lot of times it's things that can be resolved by the teacher because it's a quick fix but if it if it is anything more that then you can go ahead and reach out and we will we will have all that information and are welcome packet that we will send a week before school do emps charge was asking do we need to pick up some Chrome laptops for 5th grade we will have a resource pick up day that you will receive more information on and on that resource pick up date if there are any textbooks that need to go home if you need a Chromebook that you will indicate the assessment form Tech assessment form that I'll send after this meeting then you will go ahead and pick it up on that day and in all the grace not just afraid my son is asking how will the teachers ensure the kids in Virtual classes are fully engaged and in line with the curriculum sample are parents expected to be spending effort time West fence last year so we we don't expect that parents will be spending as much time as it were last year because their teachers will be teaching the small groups exclusively after the main lesson is Woodbury younger kids there will need to be some element of support because they are so young however we don't anticipate it to be like the next thing because we have learned a lot since then we are working very hard to make sure that everybody is trained to increase engagement and completing tasks on time medicine man is asking is there any plan to use the tuition for virtual model students no not at this time because we aren't for offering the same quality there is no change in the quality there is no change in the quality of teaching you're still getting your which is very different from the public school what teacher will be assigned we are we are signing that classroom teacher that will be engaging with your child in a personal relationship. They would do in the car so there is no changing I have tuition with a virtual or with a virtual model I can also add the school has invested thousands of dollars turn on digital resources for all subjects especially Camus 3 we understand that move into a virtual world is going to require us to have the most up-to-date I'm engaging effective learning tools for a student so the license is that we've actually been purchasing for the virtual component of learning has been extensive as a result the quality of the virtual learning is going to be up to par with the on-site inshallah Alexa so at this point because we did not want to compromise the academics weather weather extruding to do at virtually or on-site so I think that is so that's kind of where the tuition also supports that if I am so much in the news about Haitian and all these things that are happening because students and the regular model in the you know the public sector have so many issues that they're not being able to provide as much as we are as a private model we are small we have a very low student-to-teacher ratio and we are able to ensure that quality of Education that maybe in some areas they really can't do this the nature of the pandemic and the situation a lot of but the weather is are there any differences worth highlighting between an event virtual program versus County so I have looked into Wake County virtual pro I'm just see what they're offering there are definitely start differences they are the language is very ambiguous to be honest I did notice that. There would only be two hours of life they did say as best as possible they would assign the classroom teacher that your child normally would have but that's not a guarantee a lot of time in a synchronous but nothing very clear they are a county in Idaho to make very specific decisions because of their their magnitude is very different it is really like a classroom day have you saw in the schedules that I couldn't I showed earlier and it's really like a classroom day and you are getting small construction you are getting your child teacher you're getting your child's teacher will be working very hard we aren't really changing anything when it comes to our education we will continue with beginning of the year math testing even if your remote we have the capability to do that your partnership at NWA we have the online resources at Serana just spoke so all these tools we have are very different than the public Virtual Academy so there isn't there will be a huge difference so we have some comments about the tuition increasing and just you know this being a hardship for many of our family and I don't want to make a call I do think that you have addressed it but we don't mean to seem insensitive by any means but unfortunately we do have to provide you know I like a quality so I don't want it to seem like we are not that we're just ignoring me, but we have at definitely I'm will work in progress cuz there's a lot of things going as with engagement with the as the year goes on and it's on the beginning when it's time for lunch when it's time for a break there's no problem in keeping the camera on and letting the kids have just some fun time with one another engage with their friends. in class and friends that are out those are all things we want to do we want our kids at home to feel as much as that they're as cool as much as possible especially in the hybrid environment cuz we will have some kids so we are working on those details as we speak and that is a priority really want our kids to feel like this is school and that they're not missing their friends cuz we know the social element is so important to the matter little kids are  the social part of it is huge and we are trying to things in place in the schedule if you noticed there's some spots for morning assemblies we would like at the school to start our day off with remembrance of Allah and thicker inshallah as a whole school as well as meeting time small meeting times for our kids mine and our kids on campus so we are working through all those all those aspects to make sure that social part of the education experience remains as best as we can after reviewing the recent surveys what was the main concerns that came up was the option for shorter virtual school hours Revisited I think your child went before we start school you will have a link that will take you directly to your child's Google Classroom we know and the spring it was it was challenging to figure out what to do where to go in with my child's new blank we wanted to streamline the process as much as possible so the website will be your One-Stop shop you go there your child will find her teacher's picture click on it classroom and then we'll take them in their virtual classroom so we are using 100% Google Hazard learning management system disappear mainly the Privacy that it offers in the East and the integration that it offers so just question was answered because we do have a lot of new parents welcome so it says but you pick up the computer from school or you use your own computer so I have to fill out if you have a student 3D need to fill out the forms to register for either virtual or hybrid and then there's that checked the text form which allows you to tell us what support you need whether or not then we will have a pickup day where you can come and pick up the Chromebook and the other resources for your child so that information is Halo will be sent out next week betterhash make a comment about the situation and circumstances have changed for families please consider the opportunity scholarship program that is offered by the NC State education assistance Authority all right someone to asking most of 4th graders aren't even 10 yet why are they not included I can't use the white building for it to spread students more can't we isolate the third floor we can so yeah that is correct they are not 10 years old are 4th grade students however for the beginning we felt it to get our processes in our procedures down perfectly. go to start small and our big are younger students are it is more challenging for the younger grades to be on a virtual platform so the decision was made to start with a red brick building to start because this is something new for every school in every country around the world and we want to make sure that when we do it we do it right and being able to start small is a huge Advantage for us. decided to focus first on the red brick building students K through three we hope as time goes by we can start slowly introduce students back into the white building but we are going to begin with read building Decay 2 3 I just wanted to remind parents that we will be revisiting this our decisions every three to four weeks we are staying very up-to-date with the information and print cases what the county at end account typically so we are constantly sticks keto part with isn't safe enough no thank you any plan for after school activities for the kids online so kids can get together at least the play something or anything so a suggestion and we are not there yet but it's on the list so we as the fur our first priority is to make sure that we have all our procedures for our safe and healthy ironed out first and then we're going to go read through the year keep working to include suggestions that I've heard like socialization pets or for after school clubs or something that we posted or two but right now we're kind of working in priority mode what needs to get them in the past on a club that we have done on site where our teachers they volunteered their time to stay after school and run Dean variety of amazing clubs so because our priority right now is making sure that our teachers are trained and able to juggle the on-site / virtual world that's our priority right now in order to ensure quality education for all children once in Shala things do settle that then that is a really great what will the school do if the kids don't keep them on will those kids be sent home the mask for younger kids I understand this challenging however it is what we need to do to keep safe so the students will have to keep the masks on during the school day that is a non-negotiable now as teachers as parents it's our job to educate our children to get them ready for it I encourage parents of young kids who are worried that they might be fiddling with her math they might want to take it off I don't see how long they can keep the mask on and educate your children conversation tell them why of course in a very kid-friendly way why it's so important for them to keep their mascot we right now don't know how long this pandemic is going to be in what are the life is going to be for our children and for the next couple of months or even the next year it is our job to train to adapt to be situations and children mashallah you know I've been with kids so long they are so adaptable and they are something there A lot of times better than it's been listening weather surprises I'm pretty sure they'll do a great job one more question about Will play Grounds be closed on consider it for Pre-K and K 233 schools are using their playground facility as of right now the playground is closed we are calling what is happening in the state but we can take a closer look after specifically for preschool but right now the playground as of now is closed yes sister Sakina thank you for asking this question again I did students so Pete me will be for on-site students will look very different different that different than a normal BP we will have to meet we they will have to engage in Acts cities that maintain the social distance we did add on our supply list of yoga pants so they have an area where they know that they have to be and to be to participate in PE it will Folk more focused on teamwork and you know sports game games and you know teamwork those are all important open concept but because of the nature of the situation we can't engage in all the in those type of games because we have to maintain the distance so we are still allowing our kids who are on site to participate in the gym with the guidelines that we have to ensure that's it for the questions on YouTube Underpants of next steps if
