Instructional Coach Mehvish Qayam » About Me!

About Me!

Assalamu Alaikum! My passion and love for education began as a young child through
many inspirational, caring, and knowledgeable teachers. Then, in 2008 I partook in an
exploratory teaching program called Good FIT through my college, Florida Atlantic
University. Through this program, I witnessed the academic and resource disparities
based on race, ethnicity, income level, and gender. This further motivated me to enter
the teaching profession resulting in a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 2011.

I then taught at an Islamic school in Florida for four years through roles of substitute
teacher, resource teacher, and K-5 teacher. Alongside this, I tutored elementary and
middle school students as a means to support filling the achievement gap. This was
followed by teaching at FL and NC Title I (high-needs schools) schools for four years.
Through working at various schools I was able to see the impact of different school
organizations, climates, visions, instructional practices, and classroom environments on
student academic achievement and overall growth and development.

After the birth of my three wonderful boys, I took a career break to focus on being a
mother. This was not without teaching at an Islamic Sunday school and enrolling in a
Masters of Islamic Education degree program through Guidance College allowing me to
delve into educational research. Through my experience and knowledge I hope to serve
the Al-Iman team and students as an Instructional Coach in delivering holistic,
engaging, and high quality Islamic education to our children!

During my personal time I enjoy outdoor activities with my family as well as running for health.
