Al-Iman School Committee

The Al Iman School Committee provides governance and oversight of Al Iman School. The Committee is responsible for the strategic roadmap driven through the mission and vision of the school. The Committee provides due care of the school through policies, guidelines and frameworks. It works collaboratively with the School Administration to enable them to execute successfully. It provides oversight and governance by working with the School Administration in demonstrating due diligence. 
 
The Committee focuses on strategic and policy related concerns and activities. All day-to-day management of the School is the responsibility of the School Administration. Thereby, the ASC is a supporting pillar for the School to ensure academic excellence, Islamic environment, Islamic Education, and financial stability. 
 
Members of the committee are volunteers that bring a diverse set of backgrounds, skillsets and expertise. You can view each member below. Please do not hesitate to reach any of the members of the Committee.
 
The Committee meets monthly and ad-hoc, as necessary, to fulfill its responsibilities. It leverages subcommittees to drive the work forward. Currently, we have the following subcommittees below. These subcommittees are temporary and engaged/disengaged based on strategic initiatives driven by the Committee. 
 
Al-Iman School is looking for a few new faces and lots of talent to add to its brilliant, delightful, dedicated (and unpaid) Executive Committee (the ASC).  If you love our Muslim community, want the best for our children, and want to be part of Al-Iman School’s growth and expansion, let us know!  (No need to be a current or past parent.) Particularly if you’re experienced with fundraising, social media, or nonprofits generally, WE WANT YOU!

General attributes and responsibilities: ASC members are

  • passionate about Islamic Education and serving the local Muslim community in the Triangle area;
  • residents of the Triangle area;
  • able to dedicate 3-4 hours per week to serve on the committee;
  • committed to attending monthly internal and ad hoc ASC meetings; 
  • committed to strengthening the relationships between the ASC and Al-Iman School’s staff and parents;
  • able to evaluate and help choose policies that benefit the body of students (not individual students), staff, and the school;
  • able to set medium to long-term policies and strategies without getting into the day-to-day business of the school, which is the responsibility of the admin team;
  • willing to head or join subcommittees as they arise to further school goals;
  • willing to identify personal connections that can benefit the school’s fundraising and reputational standing and influence public policy.

In addition to the attributes and responsibilities listed above, the ASC is looking for a savvy and energetic Fundraising and Outreach Officer who is:

  • willing to dedicate 7-9 hours per week to this task (more time committed during the lead–up to the annual fundraiser, less during “off times”);
  • organized and results-driven; 
  • passionate about reach-out and marketing activities; and
  • highly collaborative, as this role requires coordinating and collaborating with several parties to drive a successful fundraiser.
