QUIZ TOMORROW!

In Prep for Ramadhan in Google Classroom

In Prep for Ramadhan

Salaam my wonderful kids, I’m sorry I’m not with you today. I need a day to recover from my trip, and I pushed myself a bit too far yesterday.

Today however, I believe I have an interesting and relevant assignment for you. In preparation for Ramadhan, I want us to explore fasting from a scientific perspective in our body. I’m sure in Islamic studies you go over it’s impact on our spirit and soul, and all the rulings behind fasting and Ramadhan.

We all know that one of the greatest wisdoms behind fasting is restricting ourself so we learn self-control and access our spirituality on a deeper level, however, there is also a slew of epic benefits we gain as well.

Your Assignment:
I have summarised twelve different scientific benefits of fasting for you (I’ll list below). Your job is to select TWO of the twelve, research them, and summarise in your own words (min 200 words for each). Cover how this works and why it’s good for you. This can include physical and psychological benefits. Take the entire class period to complete this assignment, it is due today. Submit as a Doc.

It goes without saying, plagiarism will result in a straight up zero, no ifs ands or buts.

1. Detoxifying
2. Appetite Suppressant
3. Metabolism
4. Weight Loss
5. Immune System
6. Blood Pressure
7. Training with HGH(human growth hormone)
8. Improved Cardiovascular Function
9. Balancing Mental Health
10. Managing Blood Sugar
11. Radiant Complexion /Anti-ageing
12. Healthier Brain and Cognitive Function

I look forward to seeing what you discover and how you present it!! Make this interesting, and I pray this gives us greater motivation with our fasting this Ramadhan.

Final Presentation (Snow Day) in Google Classroom

Final Presentation (Snow Day)

Happy Snow day my people!
I am super bummed we are not finishing our science fair today, I was REALLY looking forward to it this week, as I'm sure you were too! To adapt, I have adjusted your submission to a VIDEO RECORDING of yourself presenting. The biggest drawback to this is our inability to see everyone else's awesome work, and the judges inability to give you live feedback.

To submit:
-3-4 minute video recording of your science fair presentation

Notes: Remember to dress up, sin in good light, speak clearly and be confident.
To record, you have two options
1. Start a zoom meeting for yourself and then record it. Since you are the boss of that zoom meeting, you have the ability to do that. Screen share, then begin your presentation! The mp4 video file will save once you END the meeting.
2. You could go old school and just point a camera at yourself and your screen and record that. We wont get the clear presentation, but that's fine since I have your presentations you submitted and I can follow along.

I am attaching a zoom video of myself sharing these exact instructions. Thank you for your patience and understanding guys! You are all amazing and I cannot wait to see what discoveries you've made!! May Allaah give you all awesome success!!

Minerals (whole unit 3.1) in Google Classroom

Minerals (whole unit 3.1)

This is independent work for the week, since I wont be seeing you all for class this week due to the science fair. It will review some knowledge you may know about minerals, but teach you more about their properties, structure and even testing methods. This is a really cool topic I'll share awesome facts and videos (and even a showcase of real minerals) after you complete this work. Read the entire unit.

In your notes, write down all highlighted terms (definitions). This is for you, I wont be checking it, but you'll definitely be using it to study for any quiz/test I give on the topic.

To submit, google doc completing all the following:
p. 142-150
qns. 5-16

Create Presentation

Final step ladies and gentlemen!

Now we stitch all our parts together to create our presentation. We have MAP testing next week as well, so I am coordinating with Sr. Farea on when we can present your findings while giving you all 5-8 minutes each. This means you'll need to pack in much in a short time.

To submit: your final presentation in Google Slides format. 7 SLIDES ONLY. The breakdown of what is needed in each slide is as follows. You are allowed to add extra media beyond what is required, such as images, sound files, and SHORT video clips. Follow this STRICTLY to ensure you cover everything in the time you have to present.

Slide 1. Welcome slide with a title of your project, your research question and your name
Slide 2. A SUMMARY of your background research. What did you research, why did you research it, and how it
helped you prepare for your experiments to answer your research question. Then add your hypothesis
Slide 3. Your experiment design. Include an image of all your materials, a list of your materials and the steps to
your experiment.
Slide 4. List your independent (IV) and dependent (DV) variables. This is the variable you are changing to test
its effect (IV), and the variable you are measuring after your IV (DV). Also include how you managed to
control your experiments other variables (keeping all other factors the same to reduce variations and
errors).
Slide5. Data collected. Include your raw data in a table, before it is processed. Needs to be easy to read.
Slide 6. Your processed data in any charts where we can see it clearly.
Slide 7. Conclusion statement (one sentence, likes seriously only one sentence) and a reflection statement on
what didn't work out so well and how you could improve it. Also include a statement on possible follow
up experiments to learn more on the topic!

Attached is the grading rubric to help you excel in each of the aspects.
I wish you all the best and I am available for all your questions until due time. Make us proud!

This week we will move on to doing background research! The purpose of this is to learn and teach about your research topic. Research all relevant topics to your main topic. For example, if you are researching the effect of different running shoes on running speeds, then you would research different types of shoes, what they are made of, how they help with running speeds, and how they are designed specifically for running.

To submit: at least a full page/300 words of written research in your own words. I expect no plagiarism, and your sources cited! Don't be surprised if you receive no credit for falsified and copied information.

Defining Your Variables in Google Classroom

Defining Your Variables

Salaaam beautiful people!

Today’s assignment will help you take your science fair topic to the next practical stage, even if you haven’t fully defined your topic yet. Working backwards from how to design can sometimes help you find a topic!

For this assignment I’d like you to complete the following in a google doc.

1. State your topic of interest in the form of a question. For example “how does x affect y?” Or, “how do different shoe types affect the speed of a runner?”

2. Identify your independent variable. This is the factor you are testing to see it’s effect on something. In the previous example, it’s x, or the different shoe types.

3. Finally, identify your dependant variable. This is the factor that is affected by your independent variable. I’m the precious example, it would be y, or the time of the runner’s run with each shoe type.

Thank you guys for being so awesome, hard working and critically thinking. For this of you who rush through this, PLEASE, for the love of Allaaah, SLOW DOWN and ask the questions you need to if you need help! Have an epic weekend!
